Nintendo's paintballing multiplayer romp, Splatoon, is set to release in the coming months. So the publisher is getting a few more details about the game out there, particularly ones regarding the game's online component.

Players will do battle in the 4v4 Turf War mode, in which teams try and cover the battlefield with as much of their ink as possible. Players will gradually level up and earn currency to help unlock custom skins and in-game perks like faster swimming speed or quicker refill times. Leveling up in Turf War will gradually unlock new game modes for Splatoon, including the territory-based Splat Zones and the online ranking-based Ranked Battle. Maps includes newly-revealed venues like Blackbelly Skatepark, Saltspray Rig, and Walleye Warehouse.

Splatoon is set to release in May on Wii U. For more, check out Andrew's interview from PAX East below.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

I'm torn about this game. I've been through different cycles. From not caring, to excited and day one purchase, to now, wondering what the SP is going to be about. I feel it might be tacked on (based on today's info). Not at all what I thought it was going to be - an honest to goodness real SP experience. I think ill play it safe and wait and see what this is about before I take a plunge.
