"You should have acted! They're already here!" are the wise words that introduced the first trailer for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which will no doubt be the words yelled at us by game retailer employees as they berate us for not pre-ordering the just announced Skyrim Collector's Edition on launch day.

At QuakeCon 2011, Bethesda revealed the Collector's Edition of its upcoming title, which packs a multitude of extras for the dragon-sized price of $150.

The Collector's Edition of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be available on the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. The set will be available in the US ($150), Europe (€149.99), UK (£129.99) , and Australia (A$199.99). The set [High-Res image here] includes:

  • Alduin Statue: Created in conjunction with the IP Factory, this collector's only statue stands 12" tall and is made of high quality PVC. Modeled from actual in-game 3D digital files, it showcases Alduin, the World Eater. He stands perched atop one the game’s many dragon walls that teach the player the lethal language of dragons.

  • The 'Art of Skyrim' Official Art Book: Featuring over 200 pages of striking, full-color illustrations, sketches and models, this stunning 9 3/8" x 12 1/8" coffee table book showcases the characters, creatures, environments, and weaponry of Skyrim. With a foreword by game director Todd Howard and commentary from Bethesda Game Studios artists, readers will be guided through the game's iconic visual style.

  • The Making of The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim DVD: This documentary DVD contains exclusive, behind-the-scenes footage, including interviews with the Bethesda Game Studios team as they take you from concept to creation and provide insights into the story, gameplay, setting, legacy of the Elder Scrolls franchise, and much more.

Was really looking forward to this... But an extra 90 bucks for a book, a dvd, and a statue? First of all the book sounds awesome so I have no problem with that. But together I'm not sure if I would pay the money.

I think it's a pretty fair price for what you get with the game + high quality items. I'm very interested in this.

It's not about what you're getting, it's about bragging rights to your friends and neighbors - it lets them know how much of a badass nerd you are.

The dragon would make a fine addition to the peegy arena.

And sounds like some people don't want their statue...maybe I can get three others and put one at each corner of the arena!

Huge disappointment. Oblivion's was a way better value. DVD is meh, statue is meh, and you know they're going to sell the art book separately... Plus no mention of the map being better than the "burlap paper" one that comes with all pre-orders or any kind of special packaging? How do you put the Oblivion 5-year anniversary in a metal tin, but not this?

it was what, I think 60 Dollars for the special edition for Oblivion? Sorry, a 110 dollars for a statue? No thanks....

Yep, I still have the receipt in my Gmail, $60 directly from Take-Two. Had making-of DVD, poster map, a Tamriel handbook thing that was like 80 pages with very small print and illustrations, and the reproduction Imperial Septim coin. Made of metal.

For that kind of coin they need to throw in the soundtrack. Maybe a disc of cinematics too.

^^^ I'm always surprised when Collector's Editions don't come with the soundtrack. It's an obvious and I'd think easy extra to include and in my opinion makes Collector's Editions worth far more. And from what I've heard of Skyrim's music so far, I would kill for the soundtrack to be included.

why do these things always have fucking statues? What do they think people do with these?

I want the book, but don't want to pay for a statue that will just sit in my box of junk (along with my Big Daddy statue who falls down if the table is bumped). :(

Think you could hit up a hobby shop(or pawn) and get a pretty badass 5 pound pewter dragon figurine for $100

the dragon will go to the same mysterious island that is currently populated with Master Chief Helmets. Future generations will wonder what primitive race put them there and to what Gods they were trying to appease.......

It seems that $150 is quickly becoming the new norm for collector's editions. I can't understand why people are willing to pay so much for this crap. Really shop around and look at what you can buy for the same amount of money; you'll find that you're getting screwed.

But will I be able to activate it on Steam?

I bought the Fallout3 uber-pack, but I think I'm pretty much done buying non-Steam (or at least non-DD) games.
