Fortnite has been teasing ‘The End’ as we came to the close of Season X this past week, and today finally saw the event come to fruition. The result? A lot of confusion from the Fortnite community. What exactly is going on with Fortnite? Here’s what we know.

What is going on with Fortnite? Why is there a black screen?

Following an insane cinematic showcasing several rockets breaking open various rifts, the entirety of Fortnite’s map was sucked into a massive black hole, resulting in the entire game going dark. This has, of course, led to loads of confusion within the community. Some have taken to the various live streams available to share their outrage, excitement, and overall confusion.

The event, which many assumed would just end this season of Fortnite has also managed to end the game, at least for the time being. Fortnite has take on a full social media blackout, changing out the various profile photos of the game’s social accounts including Twitter and Instagram. In fact, the game’s icon in the Epic Games Store has also changed, and those who experienced the event in person have since been logged out of the game after choosing the exit option.

What exactly is going on with Fortnite right now is a mystery for everyone. While there are definitely concerns (and memes) about the game ending, this mostly just appears to be Epic Games helping to build the hype up following the recent event.

But how long exactly will Fortnite be down? That’s a question that nobody knows the answer to just yet. Many have speculated that we’d see a couple of hours downtime, while others have been stating that we won’t see any kind of updates to the game until tomorrow. Unfortunately, nobody really knows for sure what the black screen on Fortnite means, or even how long we can expect to wait until the game comes back up.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on things from our end here, but if you’d like to tune into the stream yourself, then we’ve included an embed of the official Fortnite YouTube stream above. For now, though, keep your eyes glued to Shacknews on Twitter for the latest updates and info about Fortnite.
