The Just Cause series built its reputation on giving players the freedom to do just about anything inside of its lush open worlds. This fall, Just Cause 4 gets an all-new DLC release by the name of Danger Rising that ups the ante on the mayhem the franchise is known for by introducing a hoverboard. No longer confined to flying jets, using wingsuits, ziplines, or falling out of planes, players can now zip around the open world in a way that would make Marty McFly jealous.

We got to speak with Avalanche Studios producer Victoria Setian while we were on-site at SDCC 2019 to get the lowdown on what players can expect from the hoverboard and all the new goodies included with Just Cause 4’s new Danger Rising DLC.

Danger Rising is the third DLC release for Just Cause 4 and the folks at Avalanche are promising the largest amount of content added to the game yet. As the development team prepared new enemies and challenges to throw at series protagonist Rico, they knew he would need more tools at his disposal for causing chaos and escaping danger. This led to the development of the hoverboard.

To help promote the use of the hoverboard and provide new gameplay opportunities, Avalanche added new components to the open world and missions to help facilitate interaction. For on-water use, loads of buoys have been sprinkled around to allow Rico to tether to and wrench the hoverboard along. Additionally, all-new mag rails allow the board to hook onto tracks that allow for high speed gameplay that takes control responsibility off the player and allows for rail-shooter encounters.

Just Cause 4’s Danger Rising DLC goes live for Season Pass holders on August 29 while the rest of the world can get their hands on the hoverboard September 5. It will be available on all platforms.
