Owners of VR headsets on the PC have much reason to rejoice today as Codemasters has officially released an update to their driving simulator Dirt Rally 2.0 that includes VR support. The VR-enabled version of the game is now on sale at the Oculus Store and owners of the game on Steam get today’s update for free.

The original Dirt Rally was one of the best showcases for VR headsets when it released thanks to its realistic take on off-road driving and the immersion provided when playing in virtual reality. Codemasters released the follow-up, Dirt Rally 2.0, earlier this year. It offered the same simulation-focused gameplay as the original, while substantially upgrading the quality of the visuals and offering new rally stages to drive on. The original stages from the first game were later made available in Dirt Rally 2.0 as part of its Season Pass content rollout.

“Since launch, our community has been very vocal about wanting a VR version of DiRT Rally 2.0, so we’re delighted to bring this to the PC version,” said Ross Gowing, DiRT Rally 2.0 Game Director at Codemasters. “It turns out that for many of our players VR is the only way to experience a rally game, and this will enable them to enjoy playing like never before.”

The existing post-launch content for Dirt Rally 2.0 will be made available for the Oculus Store version of the game in the future. Now I must find a way to convince the top brass at Shacknews that I need to expense a next-gen VR headset, an RTX 2080 Ti, and steering wheel setup so I can execute my duties as a Tech Editor more efficiently.
