Plenty of fresh news arrived from this year's San Diego Comic-Con, include details about the upcoming DC series Pennyworth. Following the story of Batman's stalwart butler and constant ally Alfred Pennyworth, the new show is a blend of period-based drama and superhero-backed canon.

Shacknews was able to meet up with Jack Bannon, who stars as Alfred in Pennyworth, at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 to learn more about his role playing the character, plus ask pertinent questions about the the series' direction and whether or not the actor will don Alfred's famous facial hair. Check out our interview in the video embed below.

For those who may not have heard about it, the show's foundation as a period piece means the producers of Pennyworth were able create a distinct setting that's manages to be unique within the DC Comics canon. Bannon mentioned that he likes seeing all the period-accurate features come together: "The fashion, the clothes, the car, the music, everything; it's great."

Naturally, one of the more obvious questions was whether or not Bannon would display Alfred's signature moustache. While the star doesn't exactly have plans to grow facial hair for the time being, he did joke that he was "applying some essential oils" to make sure his seemingly inevitable moustache would arrive in proper form.

Pennyworth will make its debut on Epix, with the series premiere kicking off on July 28 at 8 p.m. Central time. Comic fans can catch the action on cable through the Epics channel or through the Epix Now streaming service.
