Anthony Davis and Dwyane Wade are NBA 2K20's cover stars

NBA 2K20 has its new cover stars, recruiting new Los Angeles Laker Anthony Davis and recent NBA retiree Dwyane Wade.

The NBA has been a chaotic place over the last couple of days. The free agency period has kicked off and a number of superstars are finding themselves in new homes. Among them is the new cover athlete for NBA 2K20. Earlier this week, 2K Games officially revealed new Los Angeles Laker Anthony Davis as the NBA 2K20 cover star.

Davis brings a loaded resume to the table. He's a six-time NBA All-Star, three-time All-NBA First Team, three-time NBA All-Defensive Team, and 2012 Olympic gold medalist. He's mostly sat on the outside looking in during the postseason, but that may be in line to change as he joins LeBron James on the Lakers roster next season. This actually isn't the first time Davis has graced an NBA 2K cover. He was part of the NBA 2K16 ensemble lineup that also included the Golden State Warriors' Stephen Curry and the Houston Rockets' James Harden.

2K is also bringing back the Legend Edition of the game, which will get a separate cover. That cover athlete was revealed to be Dwyane Wade, who just completed his final NBA season. He finishes with three NBA championships, as well as numerous accolades that include 13-time NBA All-Star, 2008 Olympic gold medalist and 2006 NBA Finals MVP.

NBA 2K20 pre-order bonuses

With the revelation of the cover athletes come the list of pre-order bonuses for anyone looking to jump into the game early. And those hoping that the NBA 2K's affinity for free-to-play style currencies was ending will undoubtedly be disappointed. There look to be a handful of different currencies and consumables at work here. That includes the following for pre-ordering the Standard Edition:

  • 5,000 Virtual Currency
  • 5,000 MyTEAM Points
  • 5 MyCAREER Skill Boosts
  • MyPLAYER Clothing Capsule
  • 10 MyTEAM League packs (delivered one per week)
  • 5 Heat Check packs (delivered one per week beginning at the start of the NBA season)

Meanwhile, the Legend Edition will include:

  • 100,000 Virtual Currency
  • 50,000 MyTEAM Points
  • 20 MyCAREER Skill Boosts
  • MyPLAYER Clothing Capsule
  • MyPLAYER Apparel Collection
  • MyPLAYER Shoe Collection
  • 20 MyTEAM League Packs (delivered one per week)
  • 20 MyTEAM Heat Check Packs (delivered one per week beginning at the start of the NBA season)
  • 5 MyTEAM Theme Packs (one per theme release across the next five releases)
  • 2 Sapphire MyTEAM Cover Athlete Cards

NBA 2K20 is set to release on September 6 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. A Google Stadia release is also coming as soon as that platform becomes available.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
