A Commander Keen mobile game was announced at Bethesda’s E3 2019 press conference. This mobile game is a new take on an old-school favorite that should see players experiencing all kinds of exciting adventures. A soft launch is due this summer on Android and iOS devices. Check out the announce trailer below!

The YouTube description has this to say about the Commander Keen mobile version:

Dadmiral Keen has been kidnapped, and only twin geniuses Billie and Billy can save him! Commander Keen returns in an all-new mobile adventure from ZeniMax Online Studios. Utilize a zany collection of gadgets that blast, bounce, and baffle your enemies in the solo Story Mode, or go helmet-to-helmet against your fellow commanders in Battle Mode. It’s time to kick some asteroid!

Bethesda also unveiled a gameplay trailer of Commander Keen. It appears as if the game will have a focus on platforming as well as upgrading and crafting equipment. There is also a PVP mode where players can take on the role of either Billie or Billy and face-off in an epic battle.

Commander Keen is looking like it will be a free-to-play title exclusive to iOS and Android devices.

The art style for the Commander Keen mobile game looks to encapsulate that classic Saturday morning cartoon feeling. The hand-drawn style and bold colors would fit perfectly alongside the greatest cartoons of the 80s and 90s.

The Bethesda showcase offered a lot of insight in several of the company’s big titles. If you missed any of the announcements during the chaos of E3 2019, you can check out David’s recap of the Bethesda press conference, including all the games they discussed as well as the trailers. Of the collection, GhostWire: Tokyo and DOOM Eternal stole the spotlight with their creepy atmosphere and the pure, unadulterated action, respectfully.

As someone who enjoyed Commander Keen as a kid and is cool with remakes and reimaginings of properties, this looks terrible and I don't know why they'd even use the IP for it.

Because it’s easier to use established IP you own than it is to come up with new ones, if for no other reason than saving hassle at the copyright office. And other than Orcs & Elves, it’s the last IP from id that they weren’t using yet.
