The World of Warcraft is going back to its roots with WoW Classic. Giving players the chance to return to the game as it was around the time of its launch, WoW Classic is set to launch worldwide on August 27. However, ahead of its imminent release, the team at Blizzard are offering a closed beta test for WoW Classic, and we've got all the details players need to jump in on the action.

World of Warcraft Classic | How to join the beta

Even though WoW Classic is slated to release in August, fans can jump into the beta test starting on May 15. In addition, the development team has several stress test scheduled for various times:

  • Stress Test 1: Wednesday, May 22 through Thursday, May 23
  • Stress Test 2: Wednesday, June 19 through Thursday, June 20
  • Stress Test 3: Thursday, July 18 through Friday, July 19

With that said, the beta tests for Classic WoW are invite-only. Blizzard will be choosing participants who have opted into them through the Account Management on Battle.net as well as through the standard Warcraft beta opt-in. Here are more details as provided over on the official Blizzard website:

"To fill our pool of beta and stress test participants, we’ll be choosing dedicated players who meet select criteria from both the WoW Classic beta opt-in and the standard Warcraft beta opt-in. Participants will also need to have an active subscription or active game time on their Battle.net Account. While opting-in to the beta is the primary way to make sure you’re in the running to join the test it doesn’t guarantee an invitation to the closed beta test. We may also consider additional factors such as how long a player has been subscribed to the game so that we have the right mix of players to ensure great feedback toward making WoW Classic the very best experience for the community."

Beyond the game's various stress and beta tests, Blizzard will also be opening up WoW Classic character creation starting on Tuesday, August 13. It's likely that we'll hear more about WoW Classic and the results of its various beta tests as the game moves closer to its formal launch date.

It's not too difficult to hop into the WoW Classic beta, although participation is still invite-only. Simply opt in to beta testing on Battle.net and hope Blizzard shines its beta light upon you. For the rest of your WoW Classic news coverage needs, keep it tuned right here to Shacknews.
