The Sea of Thieves Friends Play Free week has kicked off and any player who owns the game will be able to send out three codes to their friends. These three codes grant the full game for their friends to experience, not just for a free weekend, but for much longer. However, there is a sign-up process before these codes can be received, and it involves the Sea of Thieves Insider Programme.
Sea of Thieves Friends Play Free code
Players looking to get their friends involved in Sea of Thieves during the Friends Play Free period will need to follow a few steps before they can crew up. The first step is to ensure ownership of Sea of Thieves. As long as you have either a physical, digital, or Game Pass copy of Sea of Thieves you can get a code.
- Go to the Sea of Thieves website
- Up the top right, sign in to your Microsoft account (the one you use to play Sea of Thieves)
- Click the profile picture
- Click Account
- Under “Contact Email” input your email address and request a verification email
- Find the email and use the link to verify the email address
- Go to Sea of Thieves Friends Play Free website
- Sign up for the Sea of Thieves Insider Programme
- Head back to the Friends Play Free section and scroll down
- Find three boxes each containing a code for Sea of Thieves
It might seem like a lengthy process, but it’s all fairly straight forward. To enable the Friends Play Free codes, you will need to have an account on the Sea of Thieves site and then verify your email. Once this is done, sign up for the Insider Programme, and with that completed, you’ll have three codes. These three codes are good for a single use, so choose wisely.
How to use a Sea of Thieves code
With the code in hand, your friend has two steps left: use the Sea of Thieves code and download the game. The Sea of Thieves Friends Play Free code must be input into the Store on the Xbox One console or if they’re on PC, through Xbox.com or the Microsoft Store app.
Friends Play Free end date
The Friends Play Free event runs from February 6 to February 13, giving players one week to enjoy the thrills of Sea of Thieves. This is certainly better than a smaller free weekend event, as it gives players enough time to download Sea of Thieves on PC and then get to voyaging, exploring, and fighting other pirates.
We here at Shacknews often extol the virtues of Sea of Thieves, in fact, it won several of our awards at the end of last year including best art style and best non-narrative story. For those who are new to Rare’s latest game, send them over to the Shacknews Sea of Thieve guide and walkthrough where we’ve collected a bunch of articles explaining the various mechanics in the game.
