It was only a matter of time before Magic the Gathering: Arena entered the world of esports competition, and it looks like that's going to be sooner rather than later. Tonight the team behind MTG:Arena announced their first invitational tournament would be coming to PAX East in 2019 with a prize pool of $1 million. This is just the first step for Wizards of the Coast journey into the world of electronic sports, but the world of tournaments is nothing new to them since Magic events have been happening long before the term esports even existed.

MTG: Arena is available now and can be downloaded for free. As an additional bonus, players can log in to their accounts tonight and use the code GAMEAWARDS to get a free starter deck as well. We'll be sure to keep you posted as we get closer to the inaugural tournament date. For now, be sure to keep up with all of tonight's TGA 2018 reveals right here on Shacknews.
