The latest take on Tetris is one that's taken quite a few unsuspecting fans by surprise. That was certainly the case at Shacknews, where we tried Tetris Effect for ourselves at E3 2018 and were blown away by what Rez Infinite creators Enhance Games pulled off with the PlayStation VR. The takeaway was, "When can we play this again?" On Monday, that answer came.

While it's possible to play Tetris Effect without VR, the bombastic graphics and immersive visuals make the VR version the best possible way to play. As for the Tetris formula, it remains as engaging as ever, but with a few new twists that challenge players to build the biggest combo they can.

Tetris Effect racked up a handful of awards at E3 2018, including "Best VR" from the Game Critics Awards. Tetris Effect will be available on PlayStation 4 on November 9, playable with or without PlayStation VR.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
