Apple iPhone X, iPhone 6s, and iPhone SE have been discontinued

The latest Apple iPhone Xs and Xr models have lead to the discontinuation of the original iPhone X, the iPhone 6S, and the iPhone SE.

Before today, the iPhone X was the latest and greatest mobile device in Apple's history. Now, not even a full year since its formal debut, the iPhone X has been discontinued, replaced by its younger, hipper siblings, the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xr. And, not only is this disappointing news for fans or owners of the original iPhone X, it also means that there are currently no iPhone models in production which carry a standard 3.5mm headphone jack.

Users heading over to the Apple website will note that it no longer lists the iPhone X, the iPhone 6s, or the iPhone SE, Apple's budget-oriented mobile device. These phones are still available for purchase through various online and physical retail storefronts, but it appears that they are no longer in production. Instead, Apple seems to be putting all of its efforts into the latest suite of iPhone X variants, including the beefed-up Xs, the oversized Xs Max, and the more affordable (read: less expensive) iPhone Xr.

It's worth noting that all of these current iPhones make use of Apple's own A12 "Bionic" chip, a staggering piece of technology with a 6-core GPU and 8-core Neural Engine, the latter of which powers the company's biggest highlighted features like image and speech processing, facial recognition, and more. Moving away from the older chips used in past iPhones means that Apple can focus its efforts on building AI-focused features that will work across the full range of current iPhone X models.

What else is new on the iPhone front? Well, the new iPhone Xs models now feature both Dual SIM Dual Standby and eSIM technology, and all of them include features powered by the ARKit 2, the likes of which were displayed during a multiplayer AR Galaga demonstration set within Apple's Special Event. Mobile users and fans can learn more about these new reveals and other interesting developments by heading over to Shacknews' Apple home page.
