During the September Keynote in the Steve Jobs Theater, Apple pulled back the curtain on its newest iPhones. The iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max represent the newest mobile technology from the tech giant.

The new iPhones have all-new OLED displays, super-strong glass and steel construction, and the new A12 Bionic processor. The Xs features a 5.8” display while the Xs Max sports a 6.5” display. Thanks to the new edge-to-edge displays these new phones feature the larger viewable areas while retaining a small physical profile similar to older iPhone models.

Apple is packing these new devices with the latest technology and improvements. The OLED Retina displays offer an effective 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, 120Hz refresh rate, and an expanded dynamic range compared to previous models. The pixel density measures in at 458 ppi. The camera will be powered by what Apple has dubbed the “True-Depth” camera system. A 12MP wide camera and 12MP telephoto camera will be included with all-new lenses. The front-facing camera will be 7MP.  The face recognition receives a big upgrade as well, with the sensor capable of recognizing and unlocking up to 10x faster than before. Apple also promises up to an extra 90 minutes of battery life on the Xs Max compared to iPhone X, thanks to a bigger battery.

At the heart of these new phones is the A12 Bionic processor. The new chip features a 4-core GPU that is up to 50% faster than the one in the A11 and a new 6-core CPU that is up to 50% more efficient than previous designs. It features support for machine learning acceleration and is packed with 6.9 billion transistors.

The iPhone Xs and Xs Max will come with storage options up to 512GB and will be available in Rose Gold, Space Grey, and Black. Returning for 2018 is the controversial notch at the top of the display. A new set of stereo speakers have Apple promising the best sounds iPhone to date. Pricing on the iPhone Xs stars at $999 and $1099 for the iPhone Xs Max. Pre-orders open on September 14.
