PAX West 2018: Fortnite reveals new High Stakes event

We don't know much about Fortnite's upcoming High Stakes event, but we do know it's set to kick off soon.

Fortnite refuses to stay out of the news cycle, and that's because the folks at Epic Games are always coming up with new tweaks and fresh takes on their signature and massively popular battle royale title. In addition to hosting several planned events and showcases throughout the PAX West 2018 weekend, Epic Games has also just revealed the latest Fortnite event called High Stakes.

The announcement was also shared via Twitter, where the Fortnite team stated that the High Stakes event will land alongside the new Getaway LTM as well as the Wild Card outfit, the likes of which are likely featured in the images above. The High Stakes themselves seem to be part of the High Stakes Challenges, whatever those may be.

Truth be told, we really don't know anything about what High Stakes might be about. However, if we take the title literally, we can assume that the new mode will change some variable of the game in order to put more pressure on players or competition. It's also possible, but not necessarily probable, that gambling or some form of casino-oriented gameplay could be in the mix. We can't say for sure. Frankly, the black-and-white teaser image doesn't provide much detail either, aside from looking like a hybrid between Fortnite, Scarface, and old Mad magazine comic strip Spy vs. Spy.

However, despite our lack of extra information, we do know that Epic Games will be giving players a glimpse of High Stakes gameplay starting tonight at 6 p.m. PT through the official Fortnite Twitch channel.
