After bringing the original Windjammers back to life on modern consoles, Dotemu has announced Windjammers 2 for PC and Nintendo Switch. It will launch October 23, 2018, and Dotemu's remake of the original Windjammers will be coming to the hybrid console as well.

Windjammers 2 will feature enhanced online multiplayer gameplay modes and single-player modes for honing your disc-throwing craft offline. The sequel will also have hand-drawn 2D animations, new stages, new characters, and new power moves all at a $14.99 price point.

“Growing the Windjammers community over the past two years has been a lot of fun, and with that growth, we see a great opportunity to continue to innovate on its timeless and fun gameplay,” said Cyrille Imbert, CEO of Dotemu, in the press release. “Thanks to that experience, we have a clear idea of how to make Windjammers 2 as fun and entertaining as the original.”

Windjammers 2 launches October 23, 2018, and you should stay tuned to Shacknews for additional updates.

I've owned my Switch for about 10 months and never played a multiplayer game on it. Am I the exception? Does anyone else treat it as a single player system only

I think it has enough games on it that are SP or SP adjacent that you could play it that way but I've really liked the multiplayer offerings on the platform as well.

Is the entire resurgence of this game thanks to Giant Bomb? I've never heard of it in any other context.

That's the first time I had ever heard of it and now there are several copy cats and now an official sequel so... possibly.

It's a well known fun multiplayer game in the cesspit of NeoGeo collectors. I down own it for NeoGeo myself, but I've played it on an emulator and it is pretty fun.
