Paul Rudd Reportedly Being Recruited for Sonic the Hedgehog Movie

Paul Rudd could bring a human character to life in the new Sonic flick.

Last October, news came out that Paramount had indeed acquired the movie rights to the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. We even got an update as to when we might see the film coming to theaters: November 15, 2019 as a tentative release date. But that's about all we heard at the time, unfortunately.

Now, we're hearing rumblings about one possible actor who could be starring in the film: Paul Rudd. Rumors have been circulating that Paul Rudd is being recruited for a human lead role. Rudd would potentially play Tom, a cop who becomes friends with Sonic, as the two work together to take down the evil Dr. Robotnik (or Eggman if you're nasty).

Jeff Fowler will be making his directorial debut with the Sonic the Hedgehog film, with a script written by the folks who worked on Transylmania and 12 Deadly Days - Patrick Casey and Josh Miller.

The movie is reportedly beginning shooting this summer in Vancouver with a $90 million budget, though we don't know anything else about what it might feature just yet. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait for additional details to emerge before we can figure out whether or not this is going to be a movie worth watching. Who knows? It could end up being a more worthwhile product than a few of the games that released in the last few years.
