The long-awaited sequel to Rune is closer to becoming reality, as Human Head releases the game's first trailer.

Let's go back in time to 2012. Human Head Studios had just been pulled from Prey 2 and suddenly had a free schedule. That's when rumors of a Rune sequel first popped up, with Human Head confirming that the franchise would eventually return.

With all of that in mind, nearly six years later, it's finally time to take a look at the first trailer for the next game in the Rune series. This trailer takes a look at some of the massive creatures that inhabit a world inspired by Norse mythology. It's a world that's rapidly coming to an end, as Ragnarok has begun. The idea is to pledge allegiance to one of the gods to gain special abilities, as they travel to enemy villages and do battle with giant creatures in visceral melee combat. Ragnarok can be stopped, though, but it'll take a final encounter with Loki to put an end to the apocalypse.

No word on when Rune: Ragnarok is set to release, but Human Head is hoping to have a playable early access build ready for later this year on PC.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
