The Fad That Won't Die: PUBG Hits 3 Million Players on Xbox

PlayerUnknown’s shooter proves that people love chicken dinner, even if it’s served stuttery.

It’s no secret that PUBG was the biggest PC game release of 2017. It is currently on pace to become the best selling PC game of all time. Console players on the Xbox One were able to get a taste of the action with an early access version of the game that first went on sale at the end of December. The winner-take-all shooter is proving to be just as popular on Microsoft’s console as it has been on the PC.

Phil Spencer, the man who runs Xbox Town, fired off a tweet today to reveal that the Xbox One version of PUBG is selling like gangbusters:

Developer Bluehole has been very active with updates for the early access version of PUBG on Xbox One. Each new title update has helped improve performance and general network latency issues. Some were concerned that the game would flounder in the incredibly rough state that the console version launched in, but things are looking up.

The PC version hit version 1.0 on December 22 and the release included the new desert map. The Xbox One version is expected to receive that map update sometime this year. Our very own Asif Khan also had a chance to talk shop with PlayerUnknown during TGS at the end of last year. Check it out in the video below.

I feel sorry for those people. If you have a solid PC you can easily run the game (now) at 60+ fps now. On console you paid $30 for barely 30fps low settings. Doesn't seem fair.

Yes, but they can sit on their couch instead of a milk crate.

I don't feel sorry for them. If they enjoy the game with a gamepad, good. Also I envy them for having what's probably a cheater free environment for now.

anything below a 970 doesn't work well with it still.

The Xbone version is improving rapidly from what I hear. PUBG was a shitshow on PC when it launched as well. It'll all work out fine.

Yes there’s been two or three patches since Christmas. Last one improved it greatly.

Yes, but I'm not comparing apples and oranges. I'm comparing what is currently out on PC and what is currently released on console. It's still the same game yet one is much, much shittier than the other.

That's kind of a dumb/pointless comparison tho, right? Xboners have every reason to expect their game to get better, just like PC gamers did back in April.

Nah I think of it like the poor console ports PC players got a while ago. Paying the same money for an inferior product.

I play it for free thanks to game sharing with my brother, and he paid 30 bucks. The games fun as shit! Don’t be hatin’!

Not sure where I'm hating at all. I'm just saying if the tables were turned I would be pretty dissatisfied.

I’d rather play on my couch on my 65” OLED then sit at my desk after sitting at my desk all day at work. I have friends who also are on Xbox live and we have been up till 1am playing it all week. It’s a blast and we all love it.

At launch it was certainly unoptimized but they're making a lot of strides. They do need people to play in order to stress the system so it's a good thing people are playing it.
