Rumor: Fable 4 May Be In Development

Hope for a new installment in the much-loved series have been bleak for some time. But, a deleted tweet and a job posting may hold some clues to the series' possible return.

The odds of fans getting a new installment of the long-running RPG series Fable has seemed bleak for some time now. Lionhead Studio, the company responsible for creating the franchise shuttered its doors last year after Fable Legends was canceled. So, despite fan outcries for a new Fable, is hasn’t seemed likely. Now, however, rumors are starting to circulate that Microsoft may be giving a new studio a chance to produce Fable 4.

According to an article by Forbes, rumors started to fly after former Lionhead programmer Don Williamson posted a now-deleted tweet stating “Mmm ok, having no inside information, I totally know who's building Fable 4 now. Interesting choice…”

Adding fuel to that fire, Playground Games, probably best known for their work on the Forza Horizon series recently put up a job posting for a designer gig that has nothing to do with racing games: “You’ll join the team and the project at an early stage, giving you the rare opportunity to shape the future of an exciting, large-scale open-world action / RPG AAA title from the outset.”

Obviously, it’s too soon to confirm that such a vague job posting has anything to do with the possibility of us getting a Fable 4, but a little hope never hurt anyone. Plus, Microsoft could use more exclusive arsenal for the Xbox One; fans are still waiting for titles like Crackdown 3 and Sea of Thieves to launch and there doesn’t seem to be much planned beyond them. If Fable 4 is really happening, it could help breathe some new life into the Xbox One.
