Let's reflect on 25 Years of Steamed Hams

There's nothing quite like one of Principal Seymour Skinner's classic steamed hams!

Today was a very special one here at Shacknews as we celebrated our 25th anniversary. But we weren't the only ones to mark such a milestone. It turns out that one of the most iconic episodes of the SImpsons that would go on spawn one of the dankest, if not the most dank, memes of all time was also brought into the world today. That's right, today is the day that steamed hams was born.

Who would've known way back when on April 15th,1996 that two of the greatest things to ever happen to the internet would be spawning simultaneously? While Shacknews was being born, households all across America were turning in to what I consider to be one of the best episodes of The Simpsons ever made. I have loved "22 Short Films About Springfield" since the day it aired for a number of reasons.

For starters, it shines a light on several of Springfield's more anciliary characters in amusing ways including a fantastic Pulp Fiction parody involving Snake and Chief Wiggum and a look into the home life of Bumblebee Man just to name a few examples. But it would be hard to argue that the segment titled "Seymour and the Superintendent" wasn't the highlight of the whole thing. It's a fantastically clever spin on some classic sitcom tropes and Skinner's lies get more and more bombastic in the most amusing ways possible as the skit goes on. It's really too good not to be meme'ed.

I could not think of a better episode of The Simpsons for us to share a birthday with. Thank you, steamed hams and Shacknews for everything you've done for the internet the past 25 years. And yes, I know I've technically already talked about burgers before here, but these are steamed hams. Big difference.
