What to watch: Solar Opposites

Need something to watch while waiting for Rick & Morty to come back? Solar Opposites can help.

I've come on here talking about TV before. Last week, I chatted about The Owl House. And yes, I absolutely love that show, but for this week, let's veer into something a little more adult. I recently had a bout of bad insomnia, so I took a full night to binge this little Hulu show called Solar Opposites.

If you love Justin Roiland's offbeat humor, you're probably going to love this. It gets a little over-the-top on the violence, especially in the first few episodes. But if you're looking for a fun sitcom about aliens on earth, I definitely recommend giving Solar Opposites a look. They're all aliens not even trying to blend in and adjusting to suburban life. Think of it like a modern, R-rated Coneheads.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the opening, which won me over from the moment I heard "and escaped into the... uh... the space!" It's even better when you learn that Korvo's opening spiel ends with something different every episode.

There's also a wild side plot where people keep getting shrunk and tossed into the kids' room into a makeshift ant farm, which these people have turned into their own dystopia. "The Wall" is entirely dedicated to this side plot and is up there with American Dad's golden turd in terms of amazing side plots that have an entire compelling story unto itself. I'm eager to see exactly how this pays off in the next season.

Oh, right! There's going to be a second season! And a third!

So don't worry too much about investing in this show only to see it cancelled. It'll be around a while. If you've got Hulu, give this a look. It's a trip to hear Sean Giambrone drop F-bombs by the finale. And it'll help fill your Rick & Morty fix for a little while.
