Zelda CD-i games

An upcoming game called Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore, inspired by the Zelda CD-i games made me go down a bit of a rabbit hole.

I'm a huge Zelda fan, but I must admit I did not know much of the CDi games that were made back in the 90s.

Seeing the advertisements for Arzette, and the Faramore controller made me really curious if there was any way to play these older games.

Thanks to Dopply's efforts, you can play both Zelda: Wand of Gamelon and Link: Faces of Evil on PC. They were posted on the Internet Archive, and patched to v1.4.2.

If you don't want to bother playing these games, you can enjoy their playthroughs:

Two interesting items of note:

  1. You play as Zelda in one (later two) of these games!
  2. Link is voiced by Jeffrey Rath and sounds like those old-school Saturday morning cartoon characters. It'll be intersting if this voice inspires the casting for the upcoming live action Zelda movie.

I also found that the 3rd installment of that era, Zelda's Adventure, was remade as a Gameboy ROM by John-lay.

To round out my exploration, I hit upon some interviews with the original game developers.
