VGM Covers Volume 2

VGM Covers Volume 2

Some of you definitely already know him but Luminist does some fantastic synth covers, a lot of which happen to be for one of my favorite video games of all time, Super Metroid.

Synthtastic

I want to say it was another Shacker here that introduced me to the Luminist and he's been a great follow even if the VGM covers nowadays are few and far between.  Luminist's channel does all his muisc with an analog synth and as such his VGM covers are almost exclusively Metroid based.  My favorite might actually be one of his first, an analog synth cover of the original Metroid title theme.

Although it's hard to compete with Super Metroid's resynthesized Title Theme he does here.  It's such a great entry, and the metroid sounds through the synth really hit that nostalgia bone square.

He uses that same synth'd metroid in another great track with Ridley, Draygon battle theme.  Covering the first time you fight Ridley in Super Metroid and its escape.  He even manages to make the "running out of time" and explosion of the space station sounds feel right at home.

I also think this is my favorite cover of the original Brinstar theme, and while Metroid: Zero Mission is far and away my favorite way to play through this part of Samus' story, I don't think the GBA sound track will ever really compare.

Anyone else have any other synth cover favorites?  Let me know in the comments below.

Luminist also does lovely non-videogame synth music too. Wonderful stuff, great for work or studying. Highly recommended albums: Infinity Mirrors and Simulations.
