Chris Cornell posthumous covers album released

Chris Cornell posthumous covers album released

We got a new album of covers from the late Chris Cornell, reminding us of what a talent we lost.

OzzieMejia

We lost Soundgarden/Audioslave lead singer Chris Cornell three years ago to suicide. His death was felt across the music world. And on Friday, his widow released a full posthumous cover album. "No One Sings Like You Anymore" features covers of songs from John Lennon, Prince, Janis Joplin, and more.

The cover of Guns N' Roses' "Patience" is especially marvelous. Give it a listen and make your day a little better.

Interesting, I had no idea he covered Watching The Wheels (John Lennon).

TBH I loved Spoonman and a few other tunes, but I never got fully into Soungarden or his other projects. He sang on “Stolen Prayer” for 1994 Alice Cooper album was was terrific (his vocal, and the album) and I really liked his James Bond theme (“You Know My Name”).

I heard that Patience cover when it came out this summer- not a fan. The drums are fucking terrible, like a Casio drum beat with fuzz and noise. Then there is this rumbling growling sound that almost sounds industrial. Finally it feels like it was time adjusted, I forget the word right now. The vocal delivery is not natural and feels like several different performances strung together.

In the original Axl and the guitar are constantly talking back and forth and I didn’t get that at all from this. Not even a replacement. It didn’t have to be the same song, that arrangement makes it unique though.

I hate to speak ill of the dead but I never liked Cornell’s solo material. With Soundgarden he was almost universally excellent but I never liked any of his solo stuff. Especially the one he did with Timbaland. Reznor may have been harsh (and he did apologize later) but he was right - that thing was cringe.

I can say the same about Mike Patton. His Faith No More stuff and Mr. Bungle stuff is top notch, his solo work is a bunch of a avant garde stuff that’s not my bag at all.

I count myself lucky that when I went to see Audioslave back in the day he Chris did a short acoustic set and they covered some Soundgarden songs.

He's a big reason why there is a band better than The Police.
