Facebook Launches Beta of VR Social Platform

You and your fellow tech enthusiasts can try hanging out in a virtual space.

Facebook Spaces, the new name for its virtual reality social network, launched in beta today.

UploadVR reports that the company announced the beta during its keynote speech at F8. It still looks quite a bit like the demonstration given last year at Oculus Connect, in which Mark Zuckerberg showed off a personalized Zucker-vatar interacting with other Facebook employees in a virtual space. A trailer showed more of the avatar creation feature, along with the always-popular stylish 20-somethings chatting about their vacations and new apartments. Those without a Rift can also call into a space with a smartphone.
