Shack's Arcade Corner: Parodius DA!

Greg has finally finished editing our GDC 2017 videos and is back to tell us all about this hilarious arcade game.

This week on the glorious return of Arcade Corner, we take a look back at Parodius DA! This Konami horizontal-scrolling shooter came out in 1990 and was a parody of Gradius and a number of other titles. You could switch up powerups in game with the push of a button which differentiated itself from a lot of games where you are at the mercy of a weapon pickup. The game had insanely silly music and boss battles and was really fun for arcade goers who didn't take themselves too seriously.

The Parodius series is a big favourite of mine.

Jikkyō Oshaberi Parodius (where you are effectively a gameshow contestant and an announcer screams stuff at you the whole time) and Sexy Parodius (where you attempt to complete missions and your success changes the progression of the game) have put some of the biggest smiles on my face whilst gaming.
