The Legend of Zelda series has been an enduring - and endearing - franchise, and part of the reason is that the dev team is not afraid to break the rules a bit. With the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Nintendo Switch and Wii U, that appears to be no different, with the game even breaking some of the conventions from the past games. The dev team is so happy with the new iteration that it is prepared to offer some insight into the game's creation.

“Change and Constant – Breaking Conventions with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” will be a panel discussion at GDC on March 1, featuring game director Hidemaro Fujibayashi, art director Satoru Takizawa, and technical director Takuhiro Dohta. The trio will talk about how the game "introduces wide-ranging changes that break with many of the traditional conventions of the franchise," while providing "an in-depth look at how these convention-breaking changes were implemented."

If you can't attend the panel, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. PT at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, a video of the presentation will be available on the GDC Vault about a week later.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is supposed to launch alongside the Nintendo Switch two days later on March 3.
