Twitch AutoMod helps streamers filter out trolls during live broadcasts

The tool was designed for situations where moderators can't keep up with an influx of negativity.

Twitch has announced AutoMod, a moderation tool that streamers can set to aggressively or lightly filter messages sent out during live chats.

Streamers configure AutoMod to one of four levels. Higher levels are more aggressive in blocking messages that fall under the broad categories of Identity, Profanity, Sexual Language, and Aggressive Speech.

"When AutoMod flags a message, it lets the original sender know that moderators will review the message’s content before it’s sent to chat. Meanwhile the message is shown to moderators, giving them a chance to accept or reject the message," explained Twitch product marketing guru Brian Petrocelli.

AutoMod isn't being positioned as a replacement for human moderators, Petrocelli's blog explained, but to augment them.

AutoMod can be configured on any streamer's Settings page.
