XCOM 2 gets traditional controller support on PC starting today

It's been a long nine months for those who prefer to play PC games with controllers, but now you can use an Xbox 360 or Xbox One controller to play XCOM 2.

Nine months after its release, the PC version of XCOM 2 now has plug & play compatibility with both the Xbox One and Xbox 360 controllers.

XCOM 2 originally launched with native Steam Controller support while support for additional gamepads was in the works. Considering Firaxis Games already launched controller support for the original XCOM, it’s a bit strange it took them so long to offer similar support. “We have been hard at work tailoring the interface specifically for controllers so that it provides a level of comfort and accessibility that our players expect,” Firaxis shares.

There are two controller layout options, which can be seen below:

In addition to launching controller support, XCOM 2’s Patch 7 includes additional improvements, such as being unable to heal SPARKS with Medikits, fixing a glitch that would prevent full conversion mods, and additional minor bug fixes.

Patch 7 should automatically install the next time you start Steam, although if it doesn’t, you should just restart the application in order to get it started.

This is good news, I really enjoyed sitting back and playing the original (with the long war mod) using my xbox 360 controller, and was disappointed that the sequel didn't have gamepad support.

I bought a steam controller specifically to play Xcom2, and found it to be quite lacking.

Cool. I was happy with the PC controls this time, but I still wish they had gamepad support from the start for everyone that wanted them back.
