Samsung objects to GTA 5 mod that replaces bombs with Galaxy Note 7s

The manufacturer went so far as to remove videos showcasing the mod.

A member of Grand Theft Auto V's community created a mod for the PC version that replaces bombs with Galaxy Note 7 smartphones (via The Verge).

The mod is a clear jab at Samsung's phone, which exhibits an alarming tendency to catch fire and even explode. Samsung recalled the phones, only for replacements to prove defective as well. The manufacturer threw in the towel and halted sales and distribution of the Note 7 earlier this month.

Unsurprisingly, Samsung doesn't see humor in the GTA 5 mod. After a video showing it in action caught fire, Samsung issued a DMCA takedown. Equally unsurprising, another video materialized and is currently blowing up with over 100,000 views. It's only a matter of time until Samsung douses that fire as well, so watch it while you can.

Come on Samsung. Better to learn to laugh at yourself. Customers will get over your sins faster if you're able to do this.

yea, whining about a mod for a game is just gonna make the bad press stick in people's heads longer.

Are these takedowns legitimate? Like, aside from YouTube politely complying, does Samsung actually have legal authority to take down the videos?

Also they're totally Streisand Effect-ing themselves. The mod was in the news a couple days ago and its time has already passed. But they ensured it had one more go around.

Good thing Samsung made a stink about it, or I may have never heard of this funny thing and laughed at them again.
