Blizzard's next Overwatch short focuses on Bastion

After a short break to launch Overwatch and roll out a few patches, Blizzard's getting back to releasing animated shorts.

The Last Bastion, Blizzard's next animated short detailing the backstories of characters from Overwatch, goes live next Thursday, August 18, at 9a Pacific.

"The Last Bastion tells the origin story of the inquisitive transforming robot, Bastion," per Blizzard's Overwatch website. In this episode, we follow the forgotten battle automaton as it unexpectedly reactivates after laying dormant in the wilderness for over a decade. Fascinated by its unfamiliar surroundings, the curious omnic begins to investigate, but quickly discovers its core combat programming may have a different directive."

Previous Overwatch shorts focused on other characters such as Hanzo and Soldier: 76.

Unveiling The Last Bastion comprises only one part of Blizzard's plans for next week's Gamescom trade show, which begins on Wednesday, August 17. On Tuesday the 16th, the company will publish a preview video detailing new gameplay tidbits related to Overwatch. It's also got tournaments lined up for Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm.
