Want VR to put you on a spaceship in the Star Trek universe? Yep, that's happening.

This past weekend, Ubisoft revealed its new VR game set in the rebooted Star Trek universe called Star Trek: Bridge Crew. The four-player coop game will put you at one of four stations on the bridge of the USS Aegis. Details were a bit sketchy except that it would work with HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR, and that it would come out later this fall.

Pretty neat idea, but I don't think we'll see LAN VR parties like we did back in the late 90s/ early 00s. So, you'll still end up playing in your own room, like you do today.

Although, just like LAN parties, I could see how the close-space social aspect of it would really make it awesome.

The Oculus has a pretty good mic built-in so no reason why this can't be over the interwebs...

The cool thing about VR with head and hand tracking is that you can get a lot of that in-person social aspect even when remote.

I seriously doubt that the primary design is for everyone to be in the same room, however it works well when you're trying to show it off in a video.

Almost certainly. I'm just saying it won't be nearly as cool as having everyone in the same room; much the same way lan parties are cooler than everyone being in their own basement under their parent's house.
