Shack's Arcade Corner - Paperboy

For this week's Shack's Arcade Corner, Greg Burke goes back to the days when newspapers were prominent and young men were tasked with delivering them.

Alright, stick with me here. Before the age of the internet, there was this thing called newspapers. They're still around today, but not nearly as prominent as they once were. And before giant trucks delivered newspapers, there were these things called paperboys. Their job was to deliver papers to everyone's porch and that idea spawned off an arcade classic.

For this week's Shack's Arcade Corner, Greg Burke takes a look back at Paperboy, in which the object was to deliver papers to customers while avoiding numerous obstacles. And for whatever reason, just about everything in the neighborhood wanted to kill you.

I played a ton of Paperboy in the arcades back in the 80s. I finished 7 days on the first two levels but the third one, hard way, was just too difficult. I think I only made it to the third day on that level. Now I want to play this again... The Xbox Arcade version was pretty good but its been delisted so no chance that version will see backwards compatibility on the Xbox One.

I spent untold quarters on this game. The control scheme was so awesome. I was never any good. I think I got to Saturday on the easy mode one time. Still had a lot of fun with this one. I wish there was a good way to emulate this game, but the controls were just a bit too unique I think.
