Xbox One expected to support keyboard and mouse, says Xbox boss

Finally! Consoles will get proper keyboard and mouse support!

The Xbox One will soon have support for both keyboard and mouse inputs, according to Xbox head Phil Spencer.

Spencer revealed the Xbox One’s future support of being able to use a keyboard and mouse as a response on Twitter. A Twitter user asked him if it would be possible to stream the Windows 10 desktop to the Xbox One, which Spencer liked the idea, but another user pointed out the console would need mouse support. Spencer’s response follows:

The Xbox One currently supports keyboards, although without mouse support, there’s no way to play games that would support both a keyboard and mouse. While controllers have been able to deliver a good experience for the majority of game genres, there are just some, such as real-time strategy and traditional MOBAs, that can only be played with a keyboard and mouse setup.

I'm sure it's only for messaging/apps and internet. Not games, only if they support it, which I bet Halo, CoD, Destiny, etc won't just for that reason.

I liked the chat-pad for the 360. It gave the controller some nice heft. Is there one of those for the xbo?

No, but with the smart glass app for smart phones you can use the phone to input text as well as a remote control.

Never gonna happen, no way a console would take away the illusion that their playerbase is "good players" when they only use controllers.

There has been trials in shared kbm/controller setups and they ALL have ended with the decision NOT to support kbm.
