E3 2015: Mass Effect Andromeda announced

EA and BioWare have finally revealed a new Mass Effect game is currently in development.

It’s been over three years since EA and BioWare released Mass Effect 3, and today, both companies are coming together once again for a new Mass Effect title. EA opened today's press conference with a trailer for "Mass Effect: Andromeda." The short teaser gave a holiday 2016 release window, and it will be coming to PC and current-gen consoles.

The announcement promises new worlds and new characters, distinct from Shepard's original trilogy saga. You'll once again take the role of a male or female protagonist to explore the Andromeda galaxy. It does note that the character we saw in the cinematic trailer, below, isn't actually the player character.

There was a huge "leak" a few months ago that this pretty heavily indicates is accurate: http://www.reddit.com/r/masseffect/comments/32yzxf/last_month_i_took_a_random_survey_about_mass/

That sounds great! I just wonder how open the world is and if there is any linear story to follow. I was very glad to see it mention Krogans. Hopefully the other major races from the previous games make an appearance.

Most of that sounds ok but those strike missions. ugh.

As someone who loved Mass Effect 1 & 2 (and ME 3 was ok except for... you know), I'm just not feeling it from that trailer. Just not feeling any hype.

Same here. Huge turn off. My guess is they are targeting the multiplayer aspect. I wouldn't be surprised if the game is mostly multiplayer with a tiny single player campaign tact on.

I was hoping for a return to the original Mass Effect game with the discovery and exploration but this looks like another generic action movie.

I've watched the trailer 4 or 5 times now.

Yeah. I'll be preordering the biggest, stupidest, most tchotchke'd, insanely overpriced version they offer.

Man, I just don't think I can do Bioware games anymore. I loved kotr, had a great time with mass effect 1&2, tried to play the dragon age games and their formula for games is almost embarrassingly transparent and I feel like it's getting worse.

Long after Commander Shepard screw over every living thing in the Galaxy by making them part-synthetic...

Character creator in the new game:

        1. green
        2. green

That was fucking weird. The one game I don't want musical juxtaposition with is Mass Effect - that shit works great for Assassin's Creed but ME has always been about awesome cinematic music with an electronic edge.

The one not included in the game, where we baited and weaponized a star system along with the local relays causing a massive CRB that destroyed the enemy but required the surviving species to abandon the galaxy as the burst slowly sterilized large chunks of the Milky Way?

I bet they can ignore the shit out of it by saying that this group is descendant of the people who left the Milky Way before the events of the ME3 so they have no idea how things went down in the home galaxy.

This could be really fantastic. I hope they go away from the overarching end of the universe plot line and focus on space exploration. Maybe each game in the new series could be set in a different galaxy? With that said I am a massive ME fan boy so I don't care what the plot is I'll buy this game on launch day.

      Horrible choice of music.

That's... not what I expected. This was the game I was most excited for, but that music was awful and didn't feel even remotely connected to ME, and it felt very action-focused, which was never the point of the series for me.

It seems weird that it'd be in a different galaxy, potentially wasting all the great lore they've developed. Also I thought even the Reapers didn't have the tech to move between galaxies.

I still have hope that it'll be great, though

I believe the original composer for ME1 and 2 wasn't brought back for 3 and won't be involved with Andromeda. It's shame. I love those soundtracks.

Jack Wall. Such a big part of why ME1 and 2 were amazing. I still liked 3 for the closure (on an individual character level rather than the overall plot) but... man, I hope Andromeda doesn't fuck things up.

Why the hell do you embed videos so that we can't fullscreen them!? That's so fucking annoying. Every time I have to click on the title of the video to open it in a new youtube tab so that I CAN fullscreen it. You're just driving people away from the site by doing that.
