Apple Watch officially confirmed

The company officially joins the watch market with a bold new design.

While not everyone is crazy about the idea of a digital watch--or talking into it like a walkie-talkie ala Dick Tracy--let's be honest. Done right, it can really be something, and provide the level of convenience that most on-the-go travelers are looking for. Well, Apple is officially getting in on this market.

With the introduction of the Apple Watch, the company is jumping head first into its model, with a digital video screen, multi-colored bands, and various features, including sports stat tracking for workouts, tracking locations on a map, texting friends and various other features. It's its own different type of display, instead of just a crunched-down iPhone (which is the last thing the company wanted). The crown on the side of the watch will act as its "home" button, taking you back to the savvy menu screen. It's also waterproof!

Oh, and you'll totally be able to take phone calls. Take that, Dick Tracy!

In addition, those looking for a "sporty" model can also invest in an 18-karat gold edition, should they be feeling fancy about their new purchase. Otherwise, ones with typically colored bands will be available.

Three different models will be available. These include a regular Apple Watch, an Apple Watch Sport Edition and a special edition, which is probably the gold-karat one it introduced. It will be required to work alongside an iPhone, starting with the 5c model and up.

There's no word yet on how games will work for the device, but you can bet that developers will find a way. Check out the Apple Watch in this trailer for a better look

It's expected for release in early 2015, starting at $349.
