DC Universe Online is launching alongside the PlayStation 4, complete with a companion app and some new features. If you upgrade, though, you don't need to say farewell to your old crime-fighting buddies. Creative director Jens Andersen confirmed today that PS3 and PS4 players will share the same servers.
Anderson confirmed the cross-platform play in a Q&A on the PlayStation.Blog. "We wanted to make sure that the release of DCUO on PS4 was not a homewrecker," he said. "We know there are lots of people from lots of different walks of life that find themselves in the same league, and enjoy playing with one another in game. We realized some people would be early adopters of the new platform, and others would wait to buy one. We felt it was very important to maintain cohesion within the community, so we decided to let them play on the same servers."
You'll also be able to keep your PS3 character in the switchover, naturally. The team will be treating the PS4 launch like a relaunch of the game, so it will be issuing an update on all platforms to streamline some systems like leveling and messaging.
Steve Watts posted a new article, DC Universe Online for PS4 will share PS3 servers.
DC Universe Online will share servers across PS3 and PS4, letting you play with your existing crime-fighting buddies even if one of you has jumped on the new system.
