The crowdfunded Tex Murphy project has gotten a publisher. Atlus announced today that it is partnering with Big Finish Games for the newly-dubbed Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure. It's slated for PC and Mac in early 2014.

Tesla Effect will be a throwback to full-motion video adventure games, and mark the first Tex Murphy game since 1998. It stars Tex Murphy, post-apocalyptic gumshoe, as he tries to discover who left him with a head wound and an injection mark on his arm. That goal is complicated, however, since the last seen years of his life have been totally wiped from his memory.

"The Tex Murphy franchise is definitely much beloved around the Atlus office; a lot of us were playing Tex games before we started our careers in the games industry," said vice president of production Bill Alexander, in the announcement. "Atlus has a great penchant for stepping in to help developers bring their incredible games to market, and we are eager to breathe new life into this classic franchise. We hope that it will bring back fond memories for Tex Murphy fans as well as introduce a new generation of gamers to his one-of-a-kind humor."

I wasn't confident enough in it to back it, but if it comes out with good reviews, I'll certainly play it. I have fond memories of playing Under a Killing Moon on the first PC I owned with a CD-ROM drive and sound card and being pretty amazed at the level of storytelling.
