Killer Instinct available as full game, in addition to free-to-play

Killer Instinct will offer a full season-pass-like option to grab all of the characters at once, Double Helix has confirmed.

The upcoming Killer Instinct reboot is a free-to-play game that will include just one character, the ninja Jago, at launch. Additional characters will be available for purchase a la carte. But Double Helix understands that you might want to grab the full roster without paying for each of them piecemeal. It will be offering a season-pass-like option to collect them all in one go--presumably at a discount over buying them individually.

The developer confirmed the sales model to Polygon, making the free-to-play option seem more like a demo for the full game. If you're sure you'd be satisfied only playing as a few characters, though, it probably would be more economical to go with the F2P option. So far, Double Helix and Microsoft haven't confirmed any prices, for individual characters or the whole set. It will be download-only and coming alongside the Xbox One launch.

Steve Watts posted a new article, Killer Instinct available as full game, in addition to free-to-play.

Would this be counted as pay to win? You get one character if you do F2P.

Or don't pay to win. All that time with one character, boring maybe but damn you will be getting some practice with those moves :-)

Not really as pay to win would be to buy character and weapon upgrades that someone with the same character would not have without paying for those items themselves. Like stated in this article, this is more of a demo you can upgrade piecemeal.

Pay to win would be "For 99 cents your next 3 battles you will have double the health!"

For the F2P version, you get to play the full single player portion of the game plus multiplayer with that one character Jago. Doesn't sound like a demo to me.

Hope this clears it up...but probably won't. The internet seems to make up their mind about these things rather quickly, often in the form of cartoon or meme.

Only if Jago is significantly worse than the rest.

What ever happened to "You only ever play a couple of characters in a fighting game anyways and by picking only the characters you want, you're actually saving money?" Are they backpedalling now since some backlash is happening? Seems like they are out of touch with the community.

No this is not backpedaling, there were different purchase options from the start.

Good thing this thing they call "Killer Instinct" looks quite lame and unlike the Killer Instinct even sounds lame. That announcer is just so lacking in awesome. And why is Jago now Kane?
