A new video game adaptation is in the works for PC, Mac and iOS, staying true to the classic turn-based Warhammer 40,000 board game but packing lovelies like a co-op mode and cross-platform play.

Space Hulk sees Space Marines clad in their finest and fanciest Terminator armour boarding hulking great derelict ships to clear out an infestation of naughty Tyranid Genestealers. It's attempting to recreate the tense tabletop experience, with Games Workshop saying "It's a turn-based game that emulates the look and feel of the board game, but with full 3D animation."

Along with 12 missions based upon the 'Sin of Damnation' campaign from Space Hulk's third edition, it'll pack cross-platform co-op and competitive multiplayer, and a level editor to share cruel creations with chums across the Imperium of Man.

Electronic Arts released a Space Hulk adaptation way back in 1993, and a sequel in 1995.

The new one is due in 2013, developed by Frontline Tactics maker Full Control. Don't miss the delightfully retro official website and announcement trailer:

      ABOUT SPACE HULK

Based on the best-selling board game and set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, Space Hulk is a 3D digital turn based strategy game that recreates the classic claustrophobic board game experience for single player and multiplayer cross-platform play between PC, Mac and on iOS.

Space Hulk is set in the isolated corridors and tomb-like chambers of an ancient vessel lost in the graveyard of space. Players lead a small army of fearless Space Marine Terminators to battle in a ferocious fight for survival against hordes of predatory alien Genestealers.

      The main features are
      Blood Angel terminator squad
      Fearsome Genestealers with challenging AI
      Thematic 3d environment
Single player campaign based on the "Sin of Damnation" hulk
New coop multiplayer levels against the Genestealer AI
Multiplayer head-to-head recreating the board game experience against a friend
Cross platform multiplayer between PC, Mac and iOS
Level editor with ability to share creations
Game expansions in the future as DLC

      Cross platform play, you say.

1993 PC game was so awesome, played the hell out of it. Sweet intro, multiple viewscreens for the terminators ala Aliens, a cool pause system that would build up a "bank" of time available for pausing over time. Although I still remember how pretty much any weapon other than bolter no meant YOU DIED no matter how awesome said other weapon should have been.

I remember that game really freaking me out with all the ambient sounds. If it got too much for me, I would switch to playing XWing!! (the other 90's game that really needs a remake!)

I can't find (completely different voice) an archive record viewer.

            Curses! My bolter's jammed!

I co-op'd the other game. The leader would give orders to the AI but also the friend, who received a visual and audio cue to go defend a chokepoint or something. Repetitive but pretty cool.
