Grand Theft Auto 5 PC & Wii U editions 'up for consideration'

Ooh, aah, Grand Theft Auto V, how awfully exciting. Last week brought a shiny new trailer, more screenshots and a flood of new details but, sadly, no new word on release platforms beyond Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Though the series' core games have always hit PC, it seems this is still up in the air for V, or at least that's the official marketing message for now.

Last week brought a shiny new trailer, more screenshots and a flood of new details but, sadly, no new word on release platforms beyond Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Though the series' core games have always hit PC, it seems this is still up in the air for 5, or at least that's the official marketing message for now.

"Everything else is up for consideration. That's all I can give you," Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser told IGN. PC and Wii U players, cross those fingers.

"The main thing is we are not... we are a third-party publisher. We're not Nintendo, we're not Sony, we're not Microsoft. We love all of them in different ways. But we can do what we want wherever there's the appropriate business opportunity and chance to find a market. If that's on Apple we put something on Apple. Wherever it might be."

GTA 5 is coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in spring 2013 with a honking great huge chunk of the fictional West Coast. Look, here's last week's new trailer again:

I wouldn't play GTA V on anything other than a PC. Current consoles are played out. Everyone was spilling over about how good Halo 4 looked. It sure plays great but its looking "tired" on that old hardware. GTA IV looked loads better on a PC so I'll wait for GTA V on there too.

I wouldn't either. The PC port for GTA4 wasn't very good and definitely suffered from performance issues, but on great hardware it looks way better than the other platforms.

I actually use an Xbox controller hooked up to my PC for the driving parts :/

I use the controller for everything because the mouse aiming is fucked up. If you look down the sight and move the mouse diagonally, it's all janky.

It's laughable how Rockstar are always pretending to not think about a PC version at all and then slowly start to "consider" one. Bitch, please. GTA started PC and always will be on PC. The only reason they delay the release on this platform is, because they're apparently selling more on the consoles.

They make more money getting people to buy it twice, and if you're one of those people it's probably worth it. That said don't take anything for granted.

I picked up IV on a steam sale and haven't never played it. Short of another $5 - $10 steam sale, I don't see me picking up V. I don't see it as money lost for rockstar since I probably never would have bothered otherwise.

I heard Lazlow on O&A once say that Rockstar really doesn't bother with PC these days sometimes because the cost of doing it "right" outweighs the return on investment from all the expenses of doing so. Now granted this was around the rime RDR came out, and I think PC sales have rebounded some since then with the two main consoles getting so long in the tooth.

If it means getting GTAV on the Wii U, I'm all for it. Just use the tablet for the map and cellphone, with the option of using the Pro controller so it's basically the same as the 360/PS3 versions.

If the GTAV map takes just as long to load up and interact with as GTAIV did, I would be more than happy with this.

I imagine it would be used as a map/minigame/smartphone/tablet/pda thing, kind like how they used the second screen on the DS in Chinatown Wars. Which if you aren't familiar with that game, it was pretty slick, the highest rated DS game of all time in fact.

I think it'd be pretty awesome on the Wii U actually. If GTA V somehow came to Wii U but not PC, I'd buy a Wii U right away just to play it.

It's very sad that people still use shitty excuses like that instead of taking responsibility for their behavior.

GTA V coming out later is in no way whatsoever a rational justification for piracy.

          November 19, 2012 3:24 PM

Don't even waste your time, most pirates wouldn't buy the game regardless. They just choose different reasons to try and rationalize what they are doing.

Basically it's a combination of market "need" and profitability vs. cost. If they can do it and be successful with little cost associated with it, they will. eot.

It's like the whole internet has LOST THEIR MEMORY. Jesus fuck people, it's coming out on PC - but it's going to be a sufficient time after PS3 / 360 so that they can milk some dollars out, relax.
Expect it at least 9 months later at a guess.

Also, I could imagine they may consider porting it for the new consoles and upping the rendering resolution or something, maybe.

Fair enough. Though I actually once thought I hated Westerns. Unforgiven and Firefly got me to warm up to the idea of me not hating them though I do prefer Yojimbo to Fistful those extra 15 minutes are crucial. More recently I quite enjoyed No Country for Old Men.

I've always wanted to give RDR a chance though, but I can rarely be arsed to use a console these days, so... yeah.

      SYNOPSIS:
After consideration, this is just marketing scam-speak to increase the console version's sales. GTA IV San Andreas and GTA IV were both released on PC something like 1 year after the consoles. The PC market for GTA V alone is bigger than the market for most well-doing multi-platform games. It's phenomenally huge. Red Dead Redemption didn't see a PC release, but that was because RStar were advised that there wasn't a market for westerns or whatever... so they probably didn't want to take the chance. Of course, the game did amazingly well.

Now they're using that blip on their track record to trick people into thinking the PC version of one of the biggest selling PC series of all time will not happen, in order to maximize the console sales.

      Gratuity:

GTA on consoles is shit anyway. Look how aliased the screenshots for GTA V are in larger versions: I almost want to puke from the jaggies and cannot bear playing games that look like so anymore. The inevitable PC release will not only look a million bucks better, but will run at higher framerates and have more enjoyable controllability. Console gaming is dinosaurnish. And not the totally-awesome dinosaurish, but the one that's old, lame, and crippled, and can be tipped over with a slight poke from your pinkie, or boner the boner that you got from the last up-to-date PC game that you played, or from the massive savings you got while enacting your latest PC game shopping spree, where every weekend some publisher or developer has their entire catalog on sale for, often, 60% off, on Steam, GoG, Impulse, Origin (yuk, die origin), Gamefly, GamersGate, Get Games, GREENMAN GAMING (fuck yes, and then slap an additional 20% discount code on top of that 60% off, haha)... and more.

(if anyone wants an additional $2 off their first purchase when signing up for Greenmangaming, you can use my referral link here: http://www.greenmangaming.com/?gmgr=colocino , or just copy and paste /?gmgr=colocino after greenmangaming.com)

Console gaming is dead, not only due to hardware limitations, but also due to contoll limitations and steep prices. Fact: the next gen of consoles are already hardware dated by today's PC standards. When they release in 2013/2014, they will be significantly behind modern PC computing. Buying one will be somewhat like buying a wii U today... but a bit better. There's a market, but people who like the greatest and largest games will be looking to alternate pastures.

According to an article released last week, PC is now the largest gaming platform, with a larger gaming base and active customers than any of the consoles. Do you really want to have to break out the dustbroom and start up the flux capacitor just to play a game with obscene jaggies?

Hahaha, GMG's winter sale, running for the next month, has a massive number of games priced at 50 - 75% off, with a discount voucher for an additional 25% after that, plus another $2 off if you use my referral link: http://www.greenmangaming.com/?gmgr=colocino

How can consoles match such deals? The answer: they can't come within the same galaxy. I just finished one shopping spree on GoG.com, and now I'm going to do another on GMG.com. God, PC gaming is just superior in too many ways.
