Microsoft 'retiring' Xbox 360 Twitter and Facebook apps

You probably don't use the Twitter and Facebook apps on the Xbox 360 dashboard, what with having computers and netbooks and tablets and pocket telephones, but Microsoft has bad news for those few who do. It's "retiring" the apps, which is a kind way to say scrapping, and suggests you use the new dashboard Internet Explorer instead.

As the Xbox 360 fall dashboard update rolls out, people are spotting that they've been pulled from the app marketplace.

"We are retiring the Facebook and Twitter apps," Microsoft confirmed in a statement provided to Eurogamer. "Xbox Live subscribers will have the ability to access these sites through Internet Explorer on Xbox, available through the Web Hub located on the new dashboard."

Which is fair enough, I suppose, but there are surely some who will miss them.

I don't get why they made them apps instead of integrating them in to the OS like on windows phone. The People section of WP7 is easily the best part of the entire OS.

it had no point. it's easier to check this on your phone. at the very least it could have integrated in games to share achievements or progress, spam friends that you're online and ready to play some MP but no, games that do that have their own set up for that...

Here's a novel idea...hows about we only play GAMES on my gaming console.
I HATE all this other bullshit on my Xbox. It's whatever. I don't even go past "play game" on my dashboard. "retire" what you want...while you are at it "retire" Major Nelson as well.
