Another new Star Wars video game franchise may be on the way. Domain registrations and trademarks filed by LucasArts point to the existence of "Star Wars: First Assault." The trademarks cover their bases for associated merchandise, but the main trust of them is "interactive entertainment software."

Fusible found trademarks for both First Assault and Star Wars: First Assault. This came only a week after LucasArts registered domain names of the same name across various territories.

Without further details, there's no telling exactly what this project could be. The name doesn't really jibe with the plot of Star Wars 1313, and LucasArts hasn't announced any other pending projects. We can always hope for a spiritual successor to the cancelled Battlefront 3. Shacknews has contacted LucasArts and will update as more information becomes available.

New franchise? ... Maybe it's a new entry for the Rebel Assault series.

How can this be anything but a iOS free to play DragonVile clone? I appreciate that a lot of people hold out hope of getting Xwing/Tie Fighter udpated, I loved those games, but Lucas Arts will never do it.

Someone has to pay for new mortgages! Star Wars, as a franchise, has a lot of legs to grow other than just movies.

I predict a Star Wars-themed Call of Duty clone.

There are so many ways to make this game suck, and based off LucaseArts record for the past 10 years I believe they are going to explore all those options. It's really sad because the Star Wars universe should be an easy translation into the gaming world.
