Crytek has been eager to show off its proprietary CryEngine on more devices, which is why we got pretty impressive console versions of Crysis 2 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Now that Crysis 3 is on the way and slated for consoles again, it should technically be able to run on the upcoming Wii U platform as well. But not likely, according to Crytek director of creative development Rasmus Hoejengaard.
"Not a fat chance," Hoejengaard told Destructoid in response to a question about coming to Wii U. "I don't think it's possible. Right now the launch platforms are PC, Xbox, and PS3, and I don't think it's in the cards for a Wii U version."
Whether that sharp denial is simply to stomp out any rumors of another version that the company isn't planning, or a slight at the Wii U's capabilities, is difficult to tell. We've heard conflicting reports regarding the Wii U's power, some developers claiming it's on-par with current consoles and others claiming it's a step down.
Steve Watts posted a new article, Crysis 3 ruled out on Wii U.
Crytek director of creative development Rasmus Hoejengaard has issued a firm statement against the possibility that Crysis 3 will hit the Wii U.
My guess is that it is one of a few things
1. Crytek did not have a Wii U dev kit at the time that the game was in planning and budgeting phases or (more concerning) does currently have a Wii U dev kit
2. Crytek did not have the resources (man power or cash) to do a wii u version so instead focused on making the standard 3 (360, ps3, pc) versions
3. Crytek does not think that there will be enough Wii U systems sold by March that they have an incentive to invest in making the game for the console.
All 3 are major problems for Nintendo as Crysis 3 would have been a nice post launch boost for the people that bought the console during the holiday season.
that should be: (more concerning) does *NOT* currently have a Wii U dev kit.
Wouldn't the TD be more in a place to say if the WiiU could run C3?
The Creative Director would be coming more from a standpoint of what they're design flow and plans are. So him saying that it's probably not happining is more of a statement that it's not in the works and they'er not planning it, rather than it's not possible.
Thanks shacknews for acknowledging the conflict of rumors.
I have been more vocal on other sites and cryteks forums, with the Crysis 3 WiiU news ... like this
