Evening Reading

Over the weekend, I posted that I had "cheesed" my first opponent in StarCraft II. I had been on a losing streak and needed a win for my precious self-esteem. I had been the victim of the very build I used a week earlier and put it into action against an unsuspecting opponent. It felt dirty... but glorious at the same time.

Is this a slippery slope I find myself on? You can grab the replay here.

I'm off tomorrow and Wednesday on assignment, while Alice is on holiday. Be nice to Xav!

Do you think moot would ever be able to profit off of 4chan?

    http://www.technologyreview.com/web/25997/page1/

From what I understand, no advertisers want to do business with him due to the /b/tards & their delicious shenanigans. Paypal locked & suspended their donation account, so I'd be at a loss on how to monetize the site and actually make some cash off of it. Clearly he's had some sort of revenue over the years, otherwise the site would've tanked a long time ago. But every article I read about him, he always talks (or it's mentioned) how broke he is and how much debt 4chan generates.

The article I linked above talks about some sort of new venture called 'Canvas' but this is the first that I've heard of it. I'm assuming if moot can't generate revenue that he'll fund it with his Canvas cash?

Given the crowd he caters to, I'd guess for fraud.

It's not that advertisers wouldn't want to do business with him, it's that the traffic is worthless.

the best part is how many sites make money of the memes created at 4chan.

On the nightstand in his New York City apartment is a copy of The Power Broker: Robert Moses and the Fall of New York

I would never in a million years have suspected this.

Other than selling the site outright I doubt he could make enough to matter.

Even selling the site would probably be difficult but with as much traffic as it gets it should be possible.

People buy businesses because they make money or have the potential to make money.

Why do you think someone would pay for a site that you also think is unmonetizable?

Someone somewhere thinks they're smart enough to make money off of 4chan.

Extortion. Just start warning a bunch of sites that he'll unleash anon on them and imply that he may be able to shut down relevant threads for a fee.

It's like the French restaurant scene in Blues Brothers.
