Square Enix recently announced Thexder Neo, a downloadable PSP update to the classic Game Arts sidescrolling shooter from 1985.

Though we never played the game in the 80s, apparently Thexder features a fighting robot that can transform into a jet, which certainly sounds like a worthy subject for revision. The Neo version will also be enhanced by new graphics, an online mode for up to six players, and an easy difficulty setting.

The game will debut worldwide in the PlayStation Store on October 1. The Japanese price is currently set at 1,000 yen, which amounts to roughly $10. We overlooked this news last week, but here's the trailer to make up for it:

Looks very similar to the original game. Which is, of course, an awesome thing.

Really? I thought the original was pretty lame. (And yeah, I played it when it was new so this isn't hyper-jaded PSOne-spawned core gamer talk.)

I loved it. :( Best MSX game for me.
