    The OS market and iLife suite is where Apple excels, why would they bail on that?

      Agreed. Until recently, hardware was actually their weakpoint.

      Either way, I REALLY want a Mac now. :'(

      they still make the same insane profit per system, why not?

      if anything it'll make it easier for people to try OS X and see what the fuss is about.

      Apple ditching the OS market would be the worst thing. Design of their laptops aside, for me it is the main thing that makes buying Mac hardware worthwhile

        They shouldn't ditch the OS market. They should divorce their OS division from their hardware division. Yes, transitioning their OS division to a situation where it has to show a profit will be hard. In the long-term, that's probably what they're going to have to do, though.

      Haha, I HIGHLY doubt Mac will ditch their own friggin OS. Good luck. Them allowing you to use Windows on a Mac is just gonna bring more people in. Steve got a bit ambitious with that "quote".
