id Software has confirmed that Doom Eternal is being pushed back to March 20, 2020. Most console and PC versions will launch first, followed by the Nintendo Switch version at a date that the team will announced "in then future."

Previously, Doom Eternal was slated for a November 22 release date. Unfortunately, that will no longer be the case. The new release date is now March 20, 2020, as id states the game simply needs more time to "live up to our standards of speed and polish." On Tuesday (October 8), developer id Software took to Twitter with a statement explaining the decision and why the game was pushed back to begin with.

"To make sure we're delivering the best experience - for Doom Eternal to live up to our standards of speed and polish - we've made the decision to extend our launch date by a few months to Mars 20, 2020. We know many fans will be disappointed by this delay, but we are confident that Doom Eternal will deliver a gaming experience that is worth the wait," read id Software's statement on the matter.

The statement also noted that the Nintendo Switch version of them are will now be releasing after the other platforms, meaning Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. If you were ready to jump in and rip and tear on the go, now you'll have to wait until a date that id is planning announcing "in the future."

There was some good news to be had in the statement, though. Invasion Mode, where you can sneak into other player's games as playable demons, will debut as a free update not long after launch. Further, Doom 64 will be offered as a preorder bonus for Doom Eternal on all platforms. You'll be able to download and play this veritable classic just by preordering the new Doom title. Otherwise, Doom 64 will be released on March 20, 2020 as well.

Perhaps it's not the best news anyone wanted to hear, but let's face it: November was getting pretty crowded, anyway. Now you've got plenty of time left to brush up on your Doom-slaying skills.
