Fortnite is adding bots to its Matchmaking mode next season

If you'd prefer to play with bot partners, you'll soon be able to do that in Fortnite.

Epic Games has announced some very important changes on the way to Fortnite. Particularly, alterations are coming with the game's next major update (v10.40) that you might get excited about, depending on how much you play or how new you are.

Fortnite will be getting skill-based matchmaking as well as bots going forward, as the company explained recently.

“Since battle royale launched, the matchmaking strategy for our core modes has remained mostly unchanged,” said Epic Games in a new blog post on its official website. “Over the past two years, however, the range of player skill has grown considerably.” Basically, that means it can be difficult for new players to move in and improve their skills when just starting out since everyone can feel so ridiculously OP.

As such, Epic Games will be “introducing improved matchmaking logic to battle royale core modes to create fairer matches.” Loosely translated into plain terms, this means “you will be more likely to match with players of similar skill, and as you get better, so should your opponents.” This new skill will slowly roll out to all regions soon enough.

The game will also feature bots soon enough for the next season, which should help players find a decent way to try out their skills that don't involve other players.

“They will behave similarly to normal players and will help provide a better path for players to grow in skill,” Epic says. “Bots will work in conjunction with the new matchmaking system, and as your skill improves, you’ll face fewer bots.” Bots will not, however, be present when it comes to any competitive arena-style playlists.
